We verlaten vandaag de westkust en rijden naar de oostkust. Het is een lange rit van ongeveer 280km. Het regent flink dus krijgen we van het laatste stukje ruige westkust niet veel meer mee. Na ongeveer 50km buigt de “New Zealand State Highway 6” af het binnenland in. Deze highway is onze vriend geweest voor de afgelopen 5 á 6 dagen.
Onze eerste stop is bij “Berlins Café en Bar” midden in de “Lower Buller Gorge”.
Het is prachtig rijden in deze kloof en het weer begint ook weer wat op te klaren gelukkig. We drinken een lekkere cappuccino en delen een Banaan/Chocolade muffin waarna we de rit hervatten. Buiten het café staat een groot stalen kunstwerk wat een Sandfly moet voorstellen. We kunnen ons niet voorstellen waarom ze deze ettertjes hebben geëerd maar goed het is een grappig object.
Het landschap wordt nu al snel wat vlakker waardoor er ook weer landbouw te zien is. We zien hop plantages en fruitbomen langskomen. We stoppen nog even bij “Mcleans Recreation Area” om de benen te strekken en proberen via een selfie virtueel een rots te kussen…
Bij “Kohato” verlaten we State Highway 6 en rijden we verder over een wat kleinere weg met heel veel bochtjes. Waarna we aankomen bij ons hotel voor de komende 3 nachten in “Kaiteriteri”. De kamer is mooi en ruim met een schitterend uitzicht over de baai.
